Answer: Windows seems to keep track of shared DLLs in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shared DLLs HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\InstalledFiles Some of the entries there may be unreadable or the paths are wrong. You can try to correct those entries and delete the invalid ones that you cannot correct.
